The Benefits Of A Low Glycemic Level Diet

The United States is facing a health crisis. 31% of adults are obese, as are 15% of adolescents and children with no sign that this trend will be shifting any time in the near future. Whats more, diabetes affects a staggering 18.2 million people in America, which is over six percent of the population. Even more shocking is the fact that this number increases each year. In short, the prognosis for many Americans health is not good.

So what can you do about it? The best thing you can do is to take care of yourself and your children through proper diet and exercise. Obesity can be eliminated and diabetes can be managed, if not all together avoided. You can control the things you put into your body, and from a chemical perspective, regulating bloods sugar levels is the most effective way to release your energy and fat burning capacity.

Pulpa Acai PowderThe Shocking Truth About Whats Preventing Us from Developing Healthy Lifestyle Habits

The air we breathe, the water we drink, and even the foods we eat, contain substances that may be damaging to our cells, according to Public Health scientists who have found new evidence of the threats that our toxic environment pose on our cellular health. Apparently, any tissue that is exposed to the environment, including the skin and gastrointestinal passages, is especially vulnerable.

While government agencies and industry are taking steps to control additional releases into the environment, many toxic substances become concentrated in fatty tissues through a process called bioaccumulation. Animal fats in the diet present health problems in other ways. Dr. Myron Wentz, Ph.D., immunologist and microbiologist, hypothesizes that foods with high peroxide values, especially processed, fatty foods, generate free radicals that in turn damage healthy cells. Researchers believe that supplementary antioxidants are necessary for combating these free radicals in addition to the bodys normal defense systems.

In addition to the health threats posed by toxic substances today, many nutritional scientists point out that much of our food has been over processed and preservatives have been added for packaging, affecting its vitamin and mineral content. In fact many of us are undernourished because our diet lacks many of the important vitamins and minerals necessary for health.

One recent study found that nearly one-third of the calories in the typical American diet come from nutrient-deficient junk food. In contrast, healthy foods, such as vegetables and fruits, make up only about ten percent of the caloric intake. Furthermore, poor diet, coupled with physical inactivity, is now recognized by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as one of the leading causes of death in the U. S. today because without proper nutrition, the cells of the body are less able to prevent and repair cellular damage.

The human body is made of cells, and those cells work together to sustain your life, says Dr. Wentz. Taking antioxidants with food may help reduce the formation of oxidized lipids. Other medical professionals concur on the importance of taking supplementation.

* One way to effectively maintain health is to supplement our diets with a full range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, so explains Dr. Ladd McNamara, an obstetrician/gynecologist in Atlanta, Georgia.

* Dr. Ray Strand, M.D., a family practitioner in South Dakota, states, The concerns for my patients health has led me to recommend a complete nutritional system to my patients.

Remember: When you are maximizing your bodys health potential, we everyone wins. When you dont, we all lose.

Has Your Diet Stalled?

Start with a new exercise program and invest in a daily workout. This may motivate you to make dietary changes. Instead of planning to exercise three days a week- make more ambitious exercise goals. Plan to exercise every day even if you know you will not make it. Get an iPod or MP3 player to make your workout fun.

Keep your diet simple. Too much variety can stimulate your appetite and you may be more likely to over eat. Prepare dinners at home instead of eating out. Keep an accurate journal to analyze what you are eating, when you are eating and why. Most dieters often under estimate the calories they are consuming. Writing it down helps you stay committed and accountable.

When eating out, order first so you are not influenced by what others are getting. Stick to healthier choices like salads or grilled fish or chicken. Limit your exposure to high fat food by not bringing them into your house. If you enjoy chocolate, do not just avoid it, because avoidance can lead to cravings and result in binging. Eat other things that are lower in calories and fat but comparable in taste.

If you do overindulge do not beat yourself up but do not slough it off either. Once you determine why it happened, come up with an alternative plan so that next time you will handle the situation better. Daily weighing is a winning weight loss strategy. It is important to know where you are and when you are going up or down.

To control calories have three meals a day and skip snacks. Sometimes even the sight of food can stimulate your appetite. A good support system is helpful in making better diet and exercise decisions. Many people who use weekly meetings with counselors or through internet based programs regain less weight than participants who do not use either. Develop a ritual to help you relax at night so you get a good night?s sleep. To lose or maintain weight there is an ideal sleep zone of about eight hours a night.
